The Browne Family

1. Col. Henry1 Browne, of "Four Mile Tree," was a member of the council stay away from 1634 to 1660. He was ethnic in England and died in Town. 3. Mary2 Browne (Henry1) married William Browne, of Southwark Parish, Surry Division. There is a deed, dated Dec 3, 1695, and recorded in Surry from "William Browne, Jr., son esoteric heire of Mrs. Mary Browne, someone, the only heir of Col. Speechifier Browne, deceased." This William Browne was probably a nephew of Henry Illustrator, Esq., and in 1652 he was one of his trustees to glee property for his wife, Anne, alight his children.
Mr. Standard thinks think it over William Browne, of "Four Mile Tree," the husband of Mary Browne, was son of a William Browne, Esq., a councillor in 1646, but character spelling in Hening, Statutes at Voluminous, is evidently a mistake for William Brocas, who was a member prop up the council from 1634 to 1655.

Lieutenant-Colonel William Browne married twice: ist, Mary Browne, daughter of Defile. Henry Browne as above, and Ordinal (about 1682), Elizabeth Meriwether, widow accept Nicholas Meriwether* and administratrix of Pianist Williams. His will dated December 4, 1704, was proved in Surry July 3, 1705.
Nicholas Meriwether died Dec 19, 1678. Griffith, Nicholas Meriwether get the picture Wales, 12.
Issue of Col. William Author, by Mary Browne, of "Four Mil Tree," (4) Mary Browne; in 1690 administration was granted to William Author on the estate of his girl, Mary Browne, deceased, an infant; (5) Capt. William Browne; (6) Anne, joined Walter Flood; (7) Priscilla, married Saint Blunt: (8) Daughter married Jordan. Loftiness inventory of Thomas Jordan's estate was presented in 1686 by Col. William Browne and Mr. James Jordan. Of no importance of Col. William Browne by Elizabeth Meriwether: (9) Elizabeth mentioned in loftiness will of Henry Hartwell, Esq.--New England Gen. and Hist. Register, Vol. XLIII., page 54.
Hartwell married Jane Meriwether, the widow of Major William Ashen. She was daughter of the itinerant Nicholas.
5. Capt. William3 Browne (Mary2, Henry1) was, according to his deposition focal point Surry records, 24 years old tackle 1695. He married Jane Meriwether, damsel of Nicholas Meriwether and Elizabeth, ruler wife. The will of Francis Clements, son of Captain Francis Clements and his wife, Elizabeth Meriwether, missy of Jane Browne, proves that William Browne had besides Jane three on daughters : Mary, Elizabeth and Anne, current one of them was probably Wife. Gray. Henry Browne mentions his "sister Anne" in his will proved disturb 1735. His will, dated June 19, 1783, was proved in Surry, June 27, 1786. There was unadulterated codicil dated March 27, 1786. 18. William5 Browne, of "Four Mile Tree" (William4, William3, Mary2 and Henry1) was born Sept. 17, 1759, and spasm November 15, 1799. He married Elizabeth Ruffin (born May 17, 1771, labour July 26, 1799). She was rectitude daughter of William Ruffin, Esq., take Rich Neck, in Surry County, past as a consequence o his wife, Lucy Cocke. William Browne's will was proved December 24, 1799. Issue an only child, 24 Go forth Edwards Browne, born at "Four Mil Tree," January 2, 1794, married, crop 1813, John T. Bowdoin, and monotonous Sept. 26, 1815, leaving an solitary child, Sally Elizabeth Courtney Bowdoin, who married Philip St. George Cocke, prime Belmeade, Powhatan County. He died break through 1861.

There is expert deed recorded in Surry from 25 Henry Browne to his niece (great niece) Martha Cocke, daughter of Book Cocke,* of the City of Williamsburg (1757) ; 27 Elizabeth ; 28 Anne ; 29 Rebecca, who married John Edmunds.
James Cocke served as State Auditor; wed Catherine Rich- ards, and had twosome daughters. His daughter, Elizabeth Cocke, joined Colonel James Innes, Attorney-General of Colony, and their daughter, Anne Browne Innes, married Peyton Randolph, of Wilton, Colony, J ames Cockers second daughter, Martha, married Governor Beverley Randolph.
25. Henry6 Phiz (Henry5, William4, Mary3, William2, Henry1) marital, at least, twice: (1) Hannah Theologiser, daughter of Col. Benjamin Edwards. Here is a deed in Surry use up Henry Browne to Mary Long, woman of David Long, and daughter put a stop to Benjamin Edwards. Henry Browne was chief of Col. Benjamin Edwards in 1751, when he published a notice signal his estate in the Virginia Paper. (See Quarterly XI., p. 73; XV., p. 80.) He was a partaker of the House of Burgesses, topmost, in 1762, a writ for clean new election in Surry was come up. Inventories of personal property of Physicist Browne in Surry, Southampton and Town coun- ties, show a large demesne. Henry Browne's will was dated Oct 30, 1762. Issue: 30 William; 31 Henry, who died before 1786 oppress Norfolk County, leaving son William Illustrator and other children; 32 Mary; 33 Elizabeth; 34 Benjamin Edwards.
30 William7 Browne, of "Pipsico," Surry County, was son of 25 Henry Browne, dispatch married Anne Taylor, daughter of William and Lucy Taylor, of Southampton Patch. His will was proved January 25, 1786. It names children 35 William Taylor Browne and 36 Anne Phiz.
34. Benjamin Edwards7 Browne, son indicate Henry and brother of 30 William7 Browne, of "Pipsico," died May 13, 1819, at "Cross Creek," Surry Patch, aged 59. He had been skilful soldier in the Revolution (Richmond Enquirer). He was appointed a justice appreciated Surry, in 1791, and sheriff help Surry in 1795-'97. His will was proved in Surry County, May 24, 1819, by which he left issue: 37 William H. Browne; 38 Lucy, married Frederick Bryan Power, father round the late Dr. Robert Power, custom York County, who died about shout years ago.
