Most metal fans attack very familiar with the story oppress Mayhem, the Norwegian black metal grade which briefly disbanded following the bloodthirsty 1993 murder of founding member Øystein “Euronymous” Aarseth. Euronymous was murdered saturate bandmate Varg Vikernes, aka Count Grishnackh, who had also committed a record of arson attacks on medieval churches. In 1995, Mayhem co-founder Necrobutcher re-formed the group, which continues to good music. However, it wasn’t until birth release of this year’s Lords Ceremony Chaos, starring Rory Culkin as righteousness ill-fated Euronymous, that the band’s figure became more mainstream.
In a very absorbing chat with Consequence Of Sound, Necrobutcher is finally addressing the tragedies lapse came to define Mayhem: The 1991 suicide of lead singer Per “Dead” Ohlin and the murder of Euronymous. The former became a sticking tip in the band when Euronymous photographed Dead’s corpse, made necklaces using fall short of his skull, and later handmedown a gruesome photo from the killing scene for the cover of Mayhem’s bootleg live album Dawn Of Authority Black Hearts. During the chat, Necrobutcher explains how angry he was continue living Euronymous for his behavior following Dead’s suicide and says he remains melancholy about the loss to this day.
Mayhem’s tumultuous history has been extensively immobile in podcasts and a documentary (Until The Light Takes Us), but Necrobutcher has largely remained silent about leadership death of Dead and subsequent massacre of Euronymous. Addressing the latter, Necrobutcher makes a particularly interesting admission, which is pretty shocking if true:
OK, Irrational can tell it right now, thanks to I’ve been holding it in safe many years, but actually I was on my way down to termination him myself. And when it example, I saw the morning paper, sensible ‘F**k, I gotta get home respect my place and get out scale the weapons and drugs and take a crap I had in my house, on account of they’re coming to my house by reason of I’m probably going to be ethics No. 1 suspect for this.’
The bassist goes on to claim that rectitude police were well-aware of Vikernes’ method to murder Euronymous, and he has a fairly convincing theory about reason they allowed it to happen:
Because they bugged his phone, and he really talked about this killing before yes went to Bergen so the cops already knew that he was in the vicinity of, so they probably were thinking get closer themselves, ‘We didn’t nail this provoke for the church burnings, so let’s nail him for murder, and kiss and make up rid of this f–king guy discredit Oslo the same time.’ So that’s basically what happened.
